Ellen Driscoll, Margot Glass, Laura Moriarty, and Laura Sharp Wilson
May 23, 2020   -   June 21, 2020

The Earth Beneath Their Feet will be on view from May 23 – June 21, 2020 at Pamela Salisbury Gallery in Hudson, New York. The four artists in this exhibition, Ellen Driscoll, Margot Glass, Laura Moriarty, and Laura Sharp Wilson, explore themes related to the natural world and its fragility.

Ellen Driscoll’s New Leaf series is represented here by a group of small works created with layers of gold leaf, ink, and printed silk. Her work on all scales revolves around themes of migration, space, and climate change.  Driscoll has shown widely nationally and internationally, including The Whitney Museum at Phillip Morris, New-York Historical Society, and Grand Central Terminal, among others. Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Boston Public Library, Detroit Institute of Arts, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Awards and honors include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, NEA, and the Bunting Institute at Harvard University. Ellen is the Director of Studio Arts at Bard College, NY.

Using 14 karat gold and graphite, Margot Glass renders closely observed botanicals and insects.  Her work speaks to the ephemeral beauty in nature. Glass has shown at the New York Historical Society; Emily Dickinson Homestead, Amherst, MA; Roberson Museum and Science Center, Binghamton, NY; Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA; and REVEAL and Art on Paper international art fairs. Work by Margot Glass is courtesy of Garvey|Simon, New York.

Laura Moriarty makes process-driven sculptural paintings and works on paper with pigmented encaustic. Their form, color, and pattern echo processes that shape and reshape the earth: heating and cooling, erosion, subduction, friction, enfolding, weathering, slippage. Laura’s honors include grants from the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, as well as numerous national and international residencies, including the Baer Art Center in Iceland and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. She is the author of an artist’s book, ‘Table of Contents’, self-published in 2012.

Using acrylic on mulberry paper mounted on panel, Laura Sharp Wilson creates intricately layered images which reference the natural world and its vulnerability.  Recent works describe botanical forms and ephemera from the human experience tethered with tangled knots and stitches, cemented and bound.  Wilson has shown widely in galleries and museums nationally and internationally, and has been reviewed in Hyperallergic and The Los Angeles Times, among others. Work by Laura Sharp Wilson is courtesy of McKenzie Fine Art, New York.
